          Did you know that one in three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime?  Also, on average, an intimate partner physically abuses nearly 20 people per minute, according to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

          Too many women suffer in silence because they feel ashamed, embarrassed, or scared.  This problem is far too common, yet it’s often swept under the rug.  Theta Zeta Epsilon Sorority works with community organizations to provide a holistic approach that helps victims and their families break the cycle of violence so they can build a foundation for a new beginning.  Our sisters help provide the support victims need to reclaim their power and dignity while teaching them essential life skills.  This will enable them to lead safe, healthy, and productive lives.  We seek to provide hope and healing for those affected by this devastating issue through our work.  We also help connect victims with legal aid, counseling, advocacy services.  Domestic violence is a pervasive problem, and TZE does vital work to help those it affects.

Theta Zeta Epsilon understands that volunteering with community education and literacy can play an important role in a person’s life.  Not only does it help to provide the necessary support to the community, but it can also offer individuals the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge that can be valuable in their future.  Reasons why Theta Zeta Epsilon works with community education and literacy programs are:

1.  Literacy is the foundation for success in life.  Without basic literacy skills, it’s difficult to achieve in school and beyond.

2.  Community education and literacy programs provide opportunities for adults to improve their skills, leading to better jobs and career advancement.

3.  In order to compete in today’s workforce, it’s increasingly important to have a high school equivalency or college degree.  Community education and literacy programs provide pathways to these milestones.

4.  By helping people gain high school equivalency or enter college/career training, we are helping create a more educated and skilled workforce.  This is crucial for the success of our society and economy as a whole.

5.  Children who have access to quality early childhood education are more likely to succeed in school and beyond.  Literacy-based activities are critical for ensuring that our children have the foundation to flourish.

Public health is a critical issue, and health disparities continue to plague our society.  Volunteering with community health service is important to Theta Zeta Epsilon for various reasons.  First, public health initiatives and programs are essential.  Organizations committed to rectifying public health inequalities rely on volunteers like the sisters of Theta Zeta Epsilon to help promote healthier living, address health disparities in impoverished communities, and advocate for policy change.  Second, by working with community health service organizations, we can help close the healthcare access and quality gaps that often disproportionately affect low-income and minority communities.  In addition, through policy advocacy and education, we can play a critical role in advancing health equity.  And finally, volunteering with public health organizations provides our members with an opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable experience in health care.

          Many disadvantaged students do not have access to the resources needed to get into college or even thrive during college life.  The college readiness program provides students an opportunity to learn more about the college application process.  In addition, students get the chance to interact with current college and alumni, which allows them to gain firsthand knowledge about what’s required to be admitted to their desired schools.  This information can be invaluable as students begin to craft their applications.

          Theta Zeta Epsilon is committed to working with college readiness programs to help students get on the right track to attend and succeed in college.  Volunteering with college readiness programs is important because we can help ensure that students take the right courses, prepare for the SAT/ACT, get involved in extracurricular activities, and develop leadership skills.  Ultimately, by volunteering with college readiness programs, we are giving back to our community and helping to create a brighter future for tomorrow’s leaders.  So if you’re looking for a way to positively impact your community and help prepare high school students for success in college, volunteering with a college readiness program is definitely the way to go!

          Awards and scholarships can play a significant role in a student’s life.  There are many reasons why awarding scholarships is important.  First, it helps more people attend college who might not otherwise be able to afford it.  Second, it’s a way of recognizing academic achievement and rewarding students who have worked hard.  Third, it helps make higher education more accessible to qualified students from all backgrounds.  Awarding scholarships also encourages students to excel academically and pursue their educational dreams.

          Theta Zeta Epsilon is here to assist and encourage students and potential students to research and find the best available options for them. Unfortunately, the application process can be intimidating. However, knowing that there is money available to help finance their education can make all the difference for some students.  Therefore, it’s important to note that researching available scholarships and completing the application process can be daunting, so being able to help navigate the process can make the difference in the end.  For these reasons, Theta Zeta Epsilon is here to help find eligible scholarships!
